Festoon Systems

Festoon systems are mobile supports for electrical cables or pneumatic and hydraulic lines that allow the cable to move with a hoist, trolley, or other mobile equipment without fouling. Festoon systems come in a variety of sizes and configurations to handle round or flat cables and hoses.

Festoon systems typically comes with different clips or clamps depending on the types of cables and hoses they are organizing. A typical festoon system consists of an end clamp that secures the cables at one non-moving end, a control unit that moves back and forth either manually or is controlled by a machine, and a series of trolleys or reels that support the moving cables and keep them secure during the machine’s operation. Festoon systems are differentiated by speed, load, and range of motion. A festoon cable system is frequently used to ensure that machines in motion continue to receive electrification and compressed air or hydraulic fluid during operation. A cable support system is also frequently used for conveyor machinery or gantry cranes where a pinched cable or air hose can cause the machinery to shut down.

Festoon systems also include track-based systems that have sliding cable carriers. Cable festoons support flat or round cables in a series of cable carriers that move freely along a C-shaped or I-beam track. A cable festoon track system can be designed for use in harsh or corrosive environments, using stainless steel for the track system and stainless steel, galvanized steel or aluminum for the carriers to provide corrosion resistance in acidic environments.

Festoon systems are also used for lighting systems. A festoon lighting system involves mounting multiple lamps or light fixtures into a flexible track that is fitted with sockets. Festoon systems for lighting often use light-emitting diodes (LEDs), xenon, or small incandescent lamps. A festoon lighting system is particularly useful for lighting display cases and bookshelves.
