Enclosure and Rack Accessories

Enclosure and rack accessories are products and components for industrial, electronic, and computer racks and enclosures. They help house programmable logic controllers (PLC) and relays in industrial enclosures; electronic components and systems in electrical cabinets, junction boxes, and electronic enclosures; and computer hardware in console, consolet, and operator enclosures. There are many types of enclosure accessories and rack accessories. Examples include air transport racks (ATR), card cages, computer cabinets, data center cages, fan trays, four-post racks, and electrostatic filters. Specialized products are available for racks and enclosures that are used at high altitudes, or that need to withstand seismic events. Conduction-cooled ATRs use air baffles to direct air flow through cards in a computer chassis. Computer cabinets are designed to accommodate cooling equipment such as fans and blowers. Data center cages are modular, segmented systems that are designed to protect information systems (IS) and computer hardware. Four-post racks provide open, accessible, and unrestricted architectures for large bundles of cables. Electrostatic filters charge airborne dust and attract the particles to metal plates. Enclosure and rack accessories such as lights, locks, and hose seals are also commonly available.

Specifications for enclosure and rack accessories vary by product type. For example, ATR enclosures carry specifications such as height, width, and operating temperature; and may be designed to meet U.S. military standards (MIL-STD). Card cages and computer chassis products are designed for specific bus types such as peripheral component interconnect (PCI), industry standard architecture (ISA), or advanced transportation communication architecture (AdvancedTCA, ATCA). Data center cages are usually made of steel, but may include glass windows or partitions. Height, width, depth, rail type, rail size, static weight load capacity, and shipping weight are common parameters to consider. Enclosure accessories and rack accessories for cooling equipment should maximize data center real-estate and permit proper airflow. Products that are dust and water resistant often meet standards from the National Equipment Manufacturers Association (NEMA) or Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Enclosure and rack accessories that comply with Ingress Protection (IP) standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) are also available.

Mounting style is an important consideration when selecting enclosure and rack accessories. Products such as air transport racks (ATR), card cages, computer cabinets, data center cages, fan trays, four-post racks, and electrostatic filters are usually floor-mounted or wall-mounted. Keyboard mounts and other types of enclosure and rack accessories may fold up or flip up to house a keyboard that is not in use.
