Electrical and Electronic Sub-assemblies

Electrical sub-assemblies and electronic sub-assemblies are individual, functional units that comprise a piece of electrical equipment. Electrical and electronic sub-assemblies include wire harnesses and cable assemblies, fiber optic cables, electrical ribbons, electrical slipring assemblies, and panel assemblies. Suppliers of electrical and electronic sub-assemblies are located across North America and around the world. They adhere to a variety of regulatory requirements and quality standards.

Electrical sub-assemblies and electronic sub-assemblies are used to build or connect electrical components for all kinds of industries, include power management, medical systems, printing and publishing, robotics, automated manufacturing and machining, detection technologies, and controls. An electrical assembly used for rotary motion applications is a slipring assembly. An electrical slipring assembly is a device used to transfer electric power and control from a stationary object to a rotating object. An electrical slipring assembly is used in production machinery, automated and robotic applications, wind generators, irrigation equipment, construction equipment and any other type of machinery where an electrical signal needs to be transferred from a static component to a rotating component.

Electrical sub-assemblies and electronic sub-assemblies including wire harnesses and cable assemblies are used to interconnect different electrical components in telecommunications, computer networking, power supply, heating and ventilation, and automotive applications. For example, an electrical cable assembly in a computer connects the electrical components to the power supply - and to each other - through a specifically designed bundle of shielded cables. Other types of electrical and electronic sub-assemblies are also available.

Electrical sub-assemblies include panel and board assemblies. An electronic board assembly consists of a printed circuit board (PCB) with interconnects and integrated circuits. Electrical sub-assemblies may be created by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or may be designed by contract electronics manufacturers (CEM). An organization may sub-contract electronic assembly development to take advantage of a vendor’s unique rapid prototyping or testing capabilities. Using electrical and electronic sub-assemblies created by different vendors allows an organization to build customized electrical devices without investing in specialized skills, materials, or equipment.
