About Safety Switches
Safety switches open and close circuits, either manually with an operating mechanism or automatically with a fuse. Typically, safety switches are built into enclosures. Safety switches, such as a safety toggle switch, provide a means for breaking or feeding electrical current to a light, appliance, or airplane device. A safety toggle switch typically has a red toggle safety switch cover that when lifted, will flip the switch on, and then will switch off when pressed down.
A neutral safety switch, also called a manual lever position sensor (MLP), prevents in-gear starting in vehicles and mechanical devices. Safety switches such as the non-contact safety switch, are used for monitoring the position of movable safety guards, and consist of an actuator and a separate safety switch head that is connected to a monitoring control unit. Similar to safety switches, a killer switch is used to disable or shut down a vehicle or mechanical unit to avoid unexpected damaging situations. A rope pull safety switch will shut down machinery when pulling on a cable attached to a switch actuator activates it. A magnetic safety switch is designed to operate in dirty industrial environments since it is resistant to both dirt and water, and has no dust collecting cavities making it useful in environments where cleanliness is important.
