Automotive connectors are electrical connectors and interconnect assemblies designed specifically for use in automobile systems such as ignition, sensor feedback and control, safety, and power systems. Automotive connectors are critical in today’s cars to connect switches, wires, lights, electric motors, sensors, computers and plugs. Whenever wires attach to a car component that might have to be removed, an automotive electrical connector (also called an automotive wiring connector) must be present to allow for the easy removal and replacement of that part. Automotive connectors also include an automotive connector housing, which is used to mount multiple wires and conductive terminals. A single automotive connector can connect 100 wires or more.
Multiple electrical wires and connectors can be combined in a component called an automotive connector harness. An automotive connector harness provides the basic support for the car’s electronic system and is sometimes called the nervous system of a car. Automotive connectors can connect a harness with another harness or a harness with other electrical components. A battery connector is a plug used on battery-powered vehicles to connect the battery to the charging station (a system that enables the alternator to generate electrical current to operate the vehicle). Fuses are an important part of a car’s electrical system to prevent electrical shorts and power overloads. An automotive panel fuse box contains the fuses that protect the car’s electrical circuits. Most cars have two fuse boxes, one in the engine compartment and a second in the driving compartment.

Automotive connectors have traditionally been the source of many electrical problems in cars. To overcome these issues, automotive connectors must be waterproof, corrosion provide, and good electrical contact. Suppliers of automotive connectors meet a variety of certifications and quality standards, including specifications from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Suppliers are located across North America and around the world.

Products & Services Related to Automotive Connectors
AC Power Connectors
AC power connectors transfer alternating current through a variety of electronic devices. AC power connectors include simple AC inlets, outlets, and power entry modules.
Audio Connectors
Audio connectors are used to affix cables to other audio equipment, providing electronic signal transference and grounding protection.
Board to Board Connectors
Board to board connectors are used to connect printed circuit boards (PCB). Each terminal connects to a PCB.
Electrical Connectors
Electrical connectors are devices that join electrical circuits together. Male connectors plug into receptacles, jacks, and outlets. Female connectors contain sockets to receive other devices.
Modular Connectors and RJ Connectors
Modular connectors and RJ connectors are plug-in units used in many networking and telecommunications applications. Registered jack (RJ) connectors are a type of modular connector, which often have protective capabilities such as integrated filters to protect against unwanted signals or some type of magnetics to provide filtering, signal conditioning, and isolation.
RF and Microwave Connectors
RF and microwave connectors are used to connect the ends of cables in systems that operate in the radio frequency (RF) or microwave spectrum. They include threaded or bayonet-style couplings that snap, screw, or push into place.
