Storage Battery Systems Inc. has developed the Portable Battery Ground Fault & Monitor for the professional charged with the responsibility of maintaining a large critical power battery plant in prime operating condition. The GFL performs numerous tasks the most important of which is to enable the operator to locate voltage paths to ground as quickly & efficiently as possible. Most commonly, these problems are caused by cracked, weeping or otherwise leakin flooded battery cells that allow electrolyte to create a path to metal structures or directly to ground. These faqults cause premature battery string failure, over-charging, high temperatures, fires, explosions & potential electric shock. The GFL will assit in identifying these fault when caused by other conditions such as poor cabling, errors in wiring and/or internal faults in SCR or IGBT rectifier front ends that create a path from the dc bus to the AC line. The GFL displays dc bus voltage, battery voltage & bus to ground voltage. The measurements are "non-contact" protecting the operator from the short.
